You may remember filling out your census form last year and wondering what will come of this data? Recently it was noted in a press release by PR Newswire in Yahoo News that the U.S. Census has created an interactive online mapping tool that shows population/demographic data from the U.S. 2010 Census. You can visit the interactive map by clicking here. The map also shows how our population has changed over time by decade. The Census is updating this tool by state on a “rolling basis”. Only a few states are shown now; but every state should have data online by the end of March. This information is very useful because it is our first peek into the data that is from the 2010 U.S. Census. Hopefully Florida’s data will come in soon. We are eager to incorporate this data into the 2010 Update to the Community Report Card that we are working on. The first person who identifies that the Florida data is available online by responding to this SCOPE Blog post will receive a gift certificate to a local business that offers cool books and tools for mapping!
